In this unit, we learned about different systems working together in our body. The different systems are the muscular, skeletal, circulatory, nervous, endocrine, reproductive, respitory, and immune system. Our group decided to do the digestive and excretory system. The purpose of the digestive system is to break down food into small molecules that can be passed to the cells that need them. The purpose of the excretory system is to discharge waste produced by homeostasis through fluids, like sweat, urine, or CO2. They work together because the large intestine removes water from excess food waste. Kidney uses water to help remove wastes from blood. It can then be reabsorbed or become a part of urine. Concepts we used in our Body Systems project Mouth - Saliva in the mouth begins to digest carbohydrates when the food is chewed Small Intestine - Absorbs nutrients and minerals from the food through chemical digestion Large Intestine - Absorbs water from remaining indigestible food matter Stomach - Hydrocholic acids in the stomach kill bacteria, enzymes break down proteins, and muscles churn and mix food Esophagus - Muscles push down food into your stomach Kidneys - Uses water to help remove wastes from excess food Lungs - Oxygen can pass down into the blood and CO2 be removed
Pits and Peaks of the Body Systems Project My first pit is the time we were alloted. Since this project was at the end of the year, we only had about a week and a half. This gave us additional pressure to perfect everything on our model and presentation before our deadline. My first peak is our group. We had all worked together to finish our project, and we were able to divide the work. Even though we had small individual parts to finish, we mostly collaborated together to complete the model and presentation. My second pit is the pressure we had on ourselves. Since we were the only group doing both the excretory and digestive system, we knew that our presentation had to be perfect. We ended up choosing a simple, but thorough approach to our model. This allowed us to make sure everything for our project was accurate, so the rest of the class wouldn't be given information from us incorrectly. My second peak is our time management. Even with the limited time, we were able to complete our project with time to spare. With this extra time, we practiced our presentation before we did it in front of the class.
